As Adam said we are back from break and the spring semester has started! I know you are excited for more ambassador blog posts! I know I am. I like blogging, though I always seem to think of interesting things to blog about
after posting. Not today though, today I planned ahead!
It's actually the third week of the semester. And unlike this time last spring semester, we have had zero snow. It hasn't even been that cold.
What did you do over your winter break? At my house we bought the first 8 seasons of NCIS on DVD and had a marathon, we got part of the way through season 7. A lot of episodes I didn't know because I didn't start watching the show live till season 8, all other episodes I'd seen were from the marathons on the USA channel.
I did do other things over break, but that's really the most interesting. And I'm okay with that.
My tips for this week:
1. Make friends in your classes!
If you're like me, you don't previously know many people in your classes from other classes or outside of class. But that's okay! We can make new friends! Even if you do know people in your classes, I think you should always try meeting some new ones too.
It's important to have a friend in every class. If you're sick and have to miss class, they can tell you what you missed. When test time rolls around, you'll have a study buddy! Just remember to get some actual studying done in between off topic conversations.
2. Forgetful? Make yourself reminders!
Doesn't matter what the reminder is for. It can be for homework, to go grocery shopping, an application deadline that's coming up, dinner plans later in the week, anything! You can set reminders on your phone, on your email, and in your agenda. Last semester I put post-its all over the walls reminding me that I had lab on Thursdays. I never forgot after that. You can also have your friends remind you, though sometimes you might have to remind them to remind you.
3. Have you thought about Fulbright minors?
Fulbright has a lot of different minors. Many of them you might not have heard of because they don't have a matching major.
Here at The Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences you can minor in:
Anthropology (like me), Medieval and Renaissance Studies (also like me), Art History (like I wish I was, I'm trying to figure out if I can fit it in with one year left), History, Legal Studies, Religious Studies, Biology, Middle East Studies, Psychology, Drama, Communications, German, Classical Studies, Spanish, Social Work, Business, and so much more!
http://fulbright.uark.edu/prospective/mandm.php (go here to see the more, there are a lot, it would take awhile to list them all.)
Minors are a great way to explore other interests, and will often make you stand out when applying for jobs or graduate schools.
Sometimes you'll even find that classes for your major over lap with ones that count towards the minor. Such as, I'm going to have to take the Shakespeare class for my English/Creative Writing major, and that is also one of the classes that counts for the Medieval and Renaissance Studies minor. So I can take one class and it counts for 2 things! Leaving room for me to take other classes! Or take less classes if you prefer to look at it that way.
Do you think the Advising Center should have a lifesize cardboard cutout picture of the Ambassadors in front of the door? I think it has potential.
Happy Tuesday,
Amy
