Happy Valentine's Day!!!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Valentine's Day is a very controversial holiday. Some people love it, and some people hate it. Personally, I love it! And only partially because it is also my day of birth (today I am 21, old I know)!

Reasons Valentine's Day is Awesome:
1. It's all about LOVE. Everyone has someone or something they love. It could be your significant other, family, best friend, coworker, favorite movie, your pet, chocolate, etc.
2. Lots of pink, hearts, flowers, chocolate, and other sweet treats.
3. It's my birthday. Yay!!!
4. I fully expect Tyler to post a special Valentine's Day edition date night blog.
5. Cute, Sweet, Romantic movies.
6. You can recite love poems whenever you want.

Romantic Movie Suggestions (in no specific order):
Titanic
When Harry Met Sally
Sixteen Candles
Notting Hill
The Princess Bride
Crazy, Stupid, Love
Runaway Bride
Shakespeare in Love
P.S. I Love You
Romeo + Juliete
Pride and Prejudice
The Notebook (and any other movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel)
Pearl Harbor
Ever After
Pretty Woman
Casablanca
Valentine's Day
And soooooo many more! Just type something like "best romance movies" on Google and you'll get a lot of lists...
What are your favorite Romance Movies???

So go out an enjoy your Valentine's Day! Whether it's a romantic dinner with someone you love, a night watching movies with friends, eating chocolate, or whatever you want to do!

My. Throat. Is. Sore.
I woke up this morning and tada! an obnoxious sore throat to accompany my 3 back to back classes, 2 meetings and this lovely office hour. That sounds sarcastic. Its not. I love all the activities I have on Wednesdays however with a sore throat by my side it isn't quite as fun. This morning instead of brewing that cup of coffee (see interesting article about those one cup coffee makers///p.s. I have an old school one, I should really say: "instead of brewing that pot of coffee) which I make as soon as I get up I boiled some water and had a mug of echinacea hot tea. It isn't as delish as coffee but I needed hydration (coffee is a diuretic) and something hot... as well echinacea is an herb with properties that are believed to promote your immune system's function. Check it out. Its a nice addition to your EmergenC/Airborne stash. I know you have one. So then classes happened. By mid afternoon however the small bit of non drowsy cough syrup had worn off and the tea was but a warm memory. I decided soup was a smart choice because the heat felt so good on the back of my throat/nose/part of my ears (yeah its THAT type of sore). Ive suggested once, Ill do it again. GREENHOUSE GRILL. Go there. Eat. Be merry. Opted for tomato soup. Theirs is outta this world. The soup did the trick but it was not long lasting. Sheesh. Seems to be the theme today. Return home and have a bit more medicine another hot tea (Tazo: Calm) and lay down. Fell asleep fast.

So now I'm here. The play by play was relatively unneeded. I shouldn't have wasted all that time. I should have just told you I woke up with a gnarly sore throat and went to the PAT WALKER HEALTH CENTER WHERE ALL YOUR MEDICAL NEEDS ARE SERVED. FOR FREE. As a student, please don't ever forget that you have the ability to visit the health center for no cost at all to you. The exception to that statement would be if blood work, xrays or the like have to be run to ensure your health. But otherwise you're in the clear. I will be headed directly there tomorrow if I am feeling no better by then.

Where the locals go

Growing up with my Daddy, I was introduced to "hole in the wall restaurants" at an early age. Going on vacation we would always ask the locals where to eat before going to the big name chains. The food provided reminds me of the local culture and gives me the feeling of home wherever I am.

Fayetteville, AR has several hole in the wall restaurants. Here is a list of the ones I have either eaten at or heard amazing things about.

Burgers/Steaks
Hugo's
Doe's Eat Place
Grubs Bar and Grille
Feltner Brother's
Herman's Steakhouse
Brenda's Bigger Burger

Sandwhich/Soups/Salads
Hammontrees
Stone Mill Bread Co.
Rick's Bakery
Green
house Grille
The Green Submarine

Coffee
Mama Carmen's

Italian
Pesto Cafe
Geraldi's

BBQ
Whole Hog Cafe
Penquin Ed's

Homecookin'
Momma Dean's Soul Food Kitchen

Seafood
The Catfish Hole

Here are some pictures of these delicious places....

You Got Questions, We Got Candy

I don't even know how to justify that title. I guess I'm saying that our advice is like candy; sweet, delicious, and will turn your tongue into a different color.

I sure do love me a good piece of candy. When I've had a long day of healthy eating, I most certainly want to endulge in the sweet joys of sugary goodness. What is your favorite candy? Blog readers, leave a comment. Fellow ambassadors, let me know in your respective posts. Much love to all.

What I really meant in that title, and I'm sure that you knew what I was trying to say, is that if you have questions then we have answers. As Fulbright Ambassadors, our job is to assist you on whatever it is that you need assistance with. The best way to reach us is probably through email. And by "probably" I mean definitely. You can find those in our "Perspectives" article.

Here's the website for that: http://fcac.uark.edu/documents/Perspectives2011.pdf

While you're checking that out, read a little about our experiences at the U of A. There are also different topics that we wrote about that you can learn from to make your career here much more enjoyable.

We will seriously take any questions that you have. Maybe you want to know what programs we offer, or maybe you want to know what the sports atmospheres are like, or maybe you even want to know how to tie your shoe faster (I can hook you up with that last one). I'm not trying to be ridiculous. I'm not trying to be funny. This is one of those rare moments where you readers get to experience "sincere Adam." It's like spotting Nessy or Big Foot. It doesn't come around often. So PLEASE take advantage of what knowledge we can impart on you young padawans. That was a Star Wars reference...

A lot of knowledge for you, we have. That is my cybertronic Yoda impression. Take it or leave it.

Check this video out.

Told you I'd hook you up.

Happy New Semester!

As Adam said we are back from break and the spring semester has started! I know you are excited for more ambassador blog posts! I know I am. I like blogging, though I always seem to think of interesting things to blog about after posting. Not today though, today I planned ahead!

It's actually the third week of the semester. And unlike this time last spring semester, we have had zero snow. It hasn't even been that cold.

What did you do over your winter break? At my house we bought the first 8 seasons of NCIS on DVD and had a marathon, we got part of the way through season 7. A lot of episodes I didn't know because I didn't start watching the show live till season 8, all other episodes I'd seen were from the marathons on the USA channel.

I did do other things over break, but that's really the most interesting. And I'm okay with that.

My tips for this week:

1. Make friends in your classes!
If you're like me, you don't previously know many people in your classes from other classes or outside of class. But that's okay! We can make new friends! Even if you do know people in your classes, I think you should always try meeting some new ones too.
It's important to have a friend in every class. If you're sick and have to miss class, they can tell you what you missed. When test time rolls around, you'll have a study buddy! Just remember to get some actual studying done in between off topic conversations.

2. Forgetful? Make yourself reminders!
Doesn't matter what the reminder is for. It can be for homework, to go grocery shopping, an application deadline that's coming up, dinner plans later in the week, anything! You can set reminders on your phone, on your email, and in your agenda. Last semester I put post-its all over the walls reminding me that I had lab on Thursdays. I never forgot after that. You can also have your friends remind you, though sometimes you might have to remind them to remind you.

3. Have you thought about Fulbright minors?
Fulbright has a lot of different minors. Many of them you might not have heard of because they don't have a matching major.

Here at The Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences you can minor in:
Anthropology (like me), Medieval and Renaissance Studies (also like me), Art History (like I wish I was, I'm trying to figure out if I can fit it in with one year left), History, Legal Studies, Religious Studies, Biology, Middle East Studies, Psychology, Drama, Communications, German, Classical Studies, Spanish, Social Work, Business, and so much more!
http://fulbright.uark.edu/prospective/mandm.php (go here to see the more, there are a lot, it would take awhile to list them all.)

Minors are a great way to explore other interests, and will often make you stand out when applying for jobs or graduate schools.

Sometimes you'll even find that classes for your major over lap with ones that count towards the minor. Such as, I'm going to have to take the Shakespeare class for my English/Creative Writing major, and that is also one of the classes that counts for the Medieval and Renaissance Studies minor. So I can take one class and it counts for 2 things! Leaving room for me to take other classes! Or take less classes if you prefer to look at it that way.

Do you think the Advising Center should have a lifesize cardboard cutout picture of the Ambassadors in front of the door? I think it has potential.

Happy Tuesday,
Amy
